DISTANCE-LEARNING INFORMATION

Students and Parents,

OVERVIEW:
Remember to breathe!  We will get through this, and we will do it together!

This is a fluid situation, and we will all need to be flexible and patient as we find our new way-of-work.  At the end of the day, our job is to do the best we can under the circumstances, which are different for each of us.  That is the standard to hold yourself to...your best.

COMMUNICATION:

It is extremely important that we maintain positive communication with each other as we establish our distance learning procedures and expectations.  For that reason, all students should frequently check their school email (daily if possible).  I will be communicating with students/parents using the Remind101 app.  All students are automatically signed up for those emails through their school email.  If parents did not sign up at the beginning of the school year and wish to do so now, I will provide the links for each course below.

I will be maintaining weekly "office hours" in a variety of ways over the coming weeks, including answer key's/explanations posted to my website, email communication, Microsoft Teams chats, and scheduled Zoom chats.  Details for each week will be posted in the Notebook Tab for each course under that week's assignment.  Please feel free to email me at any time with questions or concerns.  I will carve out time each day to respond to emails outside of my "office hours", so you should recieve a response within 24 hours.  Please keep in mind that I have a 2 year-old and a 4 year-old at home, so much of my "free time" to respond to emails will be in the evenings after their bed-time!  Also, when you email me, please be sure to send it to hannar2@leonschools.netIf you leave off the "2", your email will go to the superintendant (Rocky Hanna) instead.

ASSIGNMENTS:

Learning Packets for the weeks of 3/30 and 4/6 have already been posted to the district website at https://www.leonschools.net/LearnAtHome.  They are also posted here on my website.  On the "Notebook" tab for each course, I will post the assignment from the packet that I wish for students to turn in for their grade.  Assignments may be emailed to me as a Microsoft Word document or as a PDF.  The "due date" for Week 1 and 2 packet assignments is Friday, April 10th.  However, I ask that students "check in" with me by this Friday, April 3rd through email or by "popping in" to the Zoom session at the time posted in the Notebook tab for their class.

Future assignments will be posted to the "Notebook" tab on this website for each course with specific due dates and instructions included.  These assignments will cover "new" material and will count for a grade, though I will be here providing as much assistance as I can.  I envision that the actual assignments will be able to be completed off-line out of consideration for those who have limited technology or access to online resources.  However, I'm hoping to offer plenty of online sources to deepen and enrich the learning experience as much as possible.

PARENTS:

Parents,  Ms. Rishell sends out regular SCMS updates via SCMS ListServ.  This is our number one school-to-home communication tool.  This is separate from Focus/Parent Portal.  If you are not receiving our SCMS ListServ please go onto the SCMS website www.leonschools.net/swiftcreek and sign up.  You will find the SCMS ListServ link on the right hand side of our webpage under OTHER LINKS.  Once you are on that link you will find all the ListServ communications that have been sent and on the right hand side of the page you will see the icon/link for Subscribe or Unsubscribe.

If you arent' signed up for my Remind101 messages, you can sign up by texting the class codes listed below to "81010" or by entering the class code at this link:

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to Mr. Hanna's Science Class!  This is my
fifteenth year of teaching science at Swift Creek and I'm very excited to work with you.  I believe my class will provide students with quality learning opportunities that will foster their enthusiasm for science

If you haven't already done so, please take a moment (just a couple of minutes) to fill out the student/parent information form, found HERE.  You will be prompted to review my course syllabus (found HERE) and acknowledge that you have read it.  This will streamline the process of collecting contact information and keeping a record of students/parents who have viewed the syllabus and classroom expectations/procedures.

The purpose of this website is to help you access classroom information.  I hope you find it useful during the school year.

-      The Classroom information page explains policies, procedures, and expectations for my class and includes links to the syllabus, F.A.Q., and other documents related to the class.

-  Class Calendar pages contain the information included on the planner board for each class every day (assignments and homework). They are intended to help students and parents keep up with what is going on in class.

-      Class Notebook pages are a resource to help students and parents stay organized.  They have a list of assignments by number as well as links to print them off at home in most cases.

-      The Science Fair page contains information and links related to the Class, School, and/or Regional Science Fair.  A project is required for all of Mr. Hanna's classes this year.

- The ADI Information and Resources pages contain information about the ADI process and links to resources such as rubrics, explanations, and example reports.

-  The Standards Page includes links to Florida Science Standards for each of Mr. Hanna's classes.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me (email is best!).

Thank You,
Robert Hanna
